Researchlabs 2019 | 2 March 11:00-22:00
On 2 March Eye puts the spotlight on a new generation of curators and artists during the annual Researchlabs. Students from eight art academies and universities will present a programme of new work, remixes of films or short historical avant-garde films from Eye’s collection.

Jan Švankmajer: Between Film and Fine Art | 3 March 16:00
Bertrand Schmitt, a member of the surrealist group in Prague, is personally close to Jan Švankmajer and has extensive knowledge of his work. In conversation with film programmer Ludmila Cvikova, Schmitt makes a journey through the films, works of art and texts by Švankmajer, followed by the film Insect.

Bauhaus, dance and avatars | 5 March 19:15
Friederike Zimmermann, art historian and Oskar Schlemmer expert, will give a talk at the opening of Das Totale Tanz Theater, the VR show at Eye inspired by the century-old legacy of the Bauhaus. The programme also includes a discussion with VR co-director Diana Schniedermeier, and several Bauhaus films will be screened as a tribute to the pioneering principles of this revolutionary art school.

Xtended (VR): Das Totale Tanz Theater | 5 till 13 March
Das Totale Tanz Theater was inspired by essays by Bauhaus artist Oskar Schlemmer on costumes and Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius’ notion of the total theatre. The VR artwork transports us to a virtual world where we stand among dancers on top of a colossal steel Bauhaus towerblock.

This is Film! Film Heritage in Practice | 6 March till 8 May
Eye and the University of Amsterdam will present This is Film! Film Heritage in Practice, a series of six public lectures devoted to remarkable projects in the fields of film restoration and film heritage, varying from silent cinema compilation programmes to the restoration and presentation of 70mm Hollywood classics.
The first session will conclude with a screening of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (2014) in a 70mm print.

Cinedans 2019 | 8 till 10 March
Cinedans – Dance on Screen Festival will be celebrating its 16th edition in Eye Filmmuseum and in Playground at A-Lab. Besides Dutch and international dance films and documentaries, the festival presents a variety of installations, VR-dance projects, presentations, debates and workshops.

Best of Selected Artist Moving Images | 12 March 19:15
New work by Dutch artists and experimental filmmakers that was recently added to Eye’s collection. The programme includes short films by filmmakers and artists like María Molina Peiró and Michiel van Bakel: both emerging artists and established names.

An Evening with Amar Kanwar | 26 March 19:15
Artist and social activist Amar Kanwar investigates in his deeply unsettling yet poignant work the nature of oppression and the courageous resistance of an oppressed people. This evening he will talk about his work with Selene Wendt (curator of the exhibition A Sheet of Paper Can Become a Knife). Kanwar’s films A Season Outside and Such a Morning will also be screened.
