An audio-visual and poetic investigation of time that forms a research into its different perspectives – its passage, its rift in experience and in both mind and space. A visual flow of time is created by a conversation, and by the connection between the present and the past.

A quest to identify a man whose notebook we discovered in a bus station leads us from cemeteries to Cypriot swamps. The man’s name is Ignatius, and with the words of the outsider as our guide we too can approach DAT LIKWID LAND from elsewhere.

The I Mine

The first form of history is the story you tell yourself. In The I Mine paleo-anthropologists dig for our ancestors while miners dig for diamonds. Meanwhile, a historian digs for what he considers the most valuable gemstone: the ‘self ’.

Liquid Solid is a collaborative project between Nicky Assmann and Joris Strijbos in which they explore the cinematic qualities of freezing soap.

The Mourning of the Sea

The Mourning of the Sea was shot at Cidade Velha in Cape Verde in 2016. Located off Africa’s northwest coast, this town was the first European colonial settlement to asure slave trade to the Americas.

The Remnant

In 1659 Jan van Riebeeck, Dutch Commander of the Cape in South Africa, planted a hedge of indigenous wild almond trees. Its remnants still exist.

The Sailor

Inspired by Fernado Pessoa’s static drama “The Mariner” the video deals with the notion of what each of us addresses as home and foreign and at the same time with issues related to language and its translation.

After Tan saves his neighbour Das from a silent and lonely death it becomes apparent that he is the only one to visit him at the geriatric ward. There, Das applies for euthanasia, and Tan sets out to find someone who can stand by him in his last days.

Extrapolate

In this hand drawn animation a line is being extrapolated through a grid. After surpassing the boundaries of the grid, the process spreads to its surroundings. Gradually causing deformation in a systematic but speculative way.

Greetings from Aleppo
