Master class Polish master animator Piotr Dumala: 14 – 17 December 2011 at NIAF

In animation you can show reactions which are impossible in reality, ……Yet is it much more fascinating to show that the beings created by myself respond like living people, they think and observe (Dumała in “Kino” in 1990).

Internationally acclaimed animation and live action director Piotr Dumala gives a four day master class at the Netherlands Institute for Animation Film. Dumala lectures, shows and discusses his films, technique, working process and approach of live action as animation director. How do animation and live action relate? Practical storyboard, animation and live action exercises will be part of the master class.

A master experienced in both, animation and live action, short and long, artistic and commercial work. His technique and style, etching in plaster boards prooved to be suitable for his intentions to penetrate ‘ultimate mystery’, that is what we do not understand, what has got no name. But his work is diverse and ranges from black humor to poetry and sometimes alienating and sureal. Dumala teaches animation, writes stories and in 2010 premiered his first feature live action film The Forest. Dumała boasts a number of animated film awards at the major animation film festivals world wide.
